This morning an arborist is stopping by to look at our crab apple tree — the same one that surprised us last year by dropping leaves early and skipping its usual burst of May color. A few of our arborvitae trees are showing winter stress too, so today is about getting ahead of things: assessing, nurturing, and giving these trees the best chance to recover and thrive. Standing in the yard, it struck me how much our bodies and minds go through their own “winter.” Sometimes it’s literal — months of cold, less movement, less light. Sometimes it’s emotional — seasons where we pull inward, conserve energy, or simply endure. And just like the trees, we don’t always see the impact until spring arrives. But here’s the hopeful part: Early attention changes the entire season. Trees recover best when we start before the stress shows. So do we. Whether it’s movement, connection, rest, or mindset — the earlier we begin tending to ourselves, the more likely we are to see healthy growth, fuller blooms, and a stronger season ahead. Today is a reminder: Don’t wait for the symptoms. Don’t wait for the “perfect time.” Start nurturing now — gently, intentionally, consistently. Your spring is already here. Give yourself the same chance you’d give a tree you love. Have a great week! |
